BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Camp Kawartha has provided summer camp for kids since 1921. We are an award-winning year-round facility with a focus on leadership, outdoor & environmental stewardship. With creative, adventure-based & traditional camp activities, along with a dedication to the highest standards of programming, we inspire children to be responsible stewards of their human & natural communities.
CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Adventure, Waterfront/Aquatics, Wilderness/Nature, Sailing, Travel, Fine Arts/Crafts, Dance, Music/Band, Theater, Swimming, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Team Sports, and more. Nature, Environmental, Leadership, Arts & Crafts, Guitar, Sailing, Windsurfing, Canoeing, Kayaking, Archery, Climbing Wall, High & Low Ropes
CAMP LOCATION: Camp Kawartha's main camp is located on the south shore of Clear Lake, about 26 km (approximately 30 minutes) northeast of Peterborough off Highway 28 and about 2 hours northeast of Toronto and about 3 hours west of Ottawa. Our Environment Centre is located in the northend of Peterborough, on the east bank of Trent University. Visit our website for maps and directions for both our centres.
CAMP FACILITIES: Camp Kawartha's main camp facility on Clear Lake includes 17 cabins nestled among the trees, central washroom & shower facilities, family-style dining hall, straw-bale meeting hall, two classrooms, waterfront with swimming & boating areas for canoeing, kayaking, sailing and windsurfing, amphitheater/campfire area overlooking the lake, basketball court, volleyball court, playing field, accessible climbing wall, low & high ropes, archery range, trails, wetlands, greenhouse & garden, all on 186 acres of scenic property.
Our Environment Centre in Peterborough is a unique 2000 square foot sustainable building which showcases innovative green architecture and alternative energy.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: At Camp Kawartha, the quality of our summer camp programs begins with the excellence of our camp counsellors and leaders. We have worked hard to create a first-rate leadership development program specifically designed to train young adults in the elements of safe and effective leadership.
* 4-week Counsellor Skills Development (CSD) or Wilderness Counselor Skills Development (WCSD) for ages 15-16
* 4-week Leader-in-Training (LIT) or Wilderness Leader-in-Training (WLIT) for ages 16-17
There is an application and selection process for our 4-week Leadership Programs. Campers have to demonstrate that they are prepared to meet the demands of the program through their previous experience, by answering relevant questions and completing a letter to why they would be an asset to the program.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Early Bird and Sibling Discounts available. Our subsidy fund, thanks to the generosity of donors, helps families with limited financial resources who cannot afford the full cost of camp. YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Camp Kawartha is open year-round with two facility locations:
* our main site on Clear Lake in Douro-Dummer
* and our Environment Centre in Peterborough.
During July & August we offer summer camp programs for ages 4-17.
During the school year, we provide curriculum-linked outdoor & environmental education programs at both our centres for students in grades K-12.
From September to June, our main site on Clear Lake provides a scenic and relaxing venue for weekend retreats, team-building programs, and conferences.
