There is a bathhouse with private showers and flush toilets. In addition, there is an administrative building with the camp's office and health center, recreation hall, dining hall, bike shop, arts & crafts hut, pool, volleyball court, archery range, challenge ropes course, horseshoe pit, disc golf course, and a camp fire area including a stage.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The camp's focus is on helping children 8 to 17 take another step toward becoming happy, healthy, well-adjusted adults.
We promote positive youth development through a program that includes many of the summer camp classics, such as arts & crafts, archery, camp fire, dance, drama, games, swimming, etc., plus exhilarating wilderness adventure activities, such as rock climbing, mountain biking, mountain boarding, horseback trail rides, hikes, backpacking, etc.
We also offer three specialized program tracks in which kids who love rock climbing, mountain biking or outdoor living skills (backpacking) can really focus on those activities.
In fact, our program has so many fun activities kids can't do them all in a single week! After a day of team building fun and games designed so kids get to meet and know others, kids sign up for activities every other day. They are not locked into a block schedule. Rather, they can sign up for the activities they really enjoy, or to be with friends. After all, when people think of camp, they think of fun and friends.
And our camp is so confident that your child will have fun, it offers a money-back guarantee. If your child doesn't have fun, we'll refund your money. No questions asked. (See the web site for details.) We don't know of another camp that backs its program with such a promise.
But fun isn't even the best part of camp. While kids come to camp the first time for all the great activities, they return for the magic. They simply feel exhilarated and nourished from their experience. This springs from our focus on youth development, with activities designed to help kids:
* build self-esteem and self-worth by contributing to their community,
* develop self-confidence by trying new activities in a criticism-free zone and acquiring new or improved skills such as in rock climbing, dance, paddle boarding, drama, or mountain biking,
* increase independence by successfully living away from home and making decisions for themselves such as what activities to pursue and even designing their own activity period,
* gain in understanding of others who come from different regions of the world (children and staff have come from virtually every continent on earth, including Antarctica where one of our staff member help build the research station),
* nurture an enduring sense of adventure, unafraid to try new things, springing from all the opportunities at camp, the encouragement and the lack of criticism by both peers and adults, and
* enhance an appreciation of nature by unplugging from electronics and living in a beautiful living, breathing forest.
When you mix all these positive developmental attributes with fun and friends in a beautiful mountain setting, you get all the ingredients for magic.
We think this contributed to Outside Magazine naming Shaffer's High Sierra Camp as one of its five favorite camps in the entire country. And with a money-back guarantee, you can't go wrong.
Don't settle for just a fun time when your child can have a life-changing experience. It's one of the best gifts you can give your child.
